Totana, a city steeped in history which can be traced back to before 216AC. Nestled at the foot of the Sierra Espuna natural park and bounded by Lorca, Mazarron, Alhama de Murcia and Aledo.
With a population of some 25000, its rambling streets and cobbled walkways disguise a town which has everything. Shopping for all, even the most discerning and sophisticated tastes are catered for.
Early indications show that around 1088 Totana was the poor quarter of the fortress town of Aledo. Eventually over time the town grew in strength and in 1550 the first town council was formed, becoming fully independent in 1795.
Within easy reach by road and rail are Murcia, Lorca and Cartagena. Alicante and Murcia airports only 1hour by car, With 30 km’s of sandy beaches and unspoilt coves to explore just a short ride away. One of the largest and most spectacular festivals held over the Easter period is held in Lorca which is only a short drive away.
For those less adventurous Totana also offers quiet walks, an array of bars and restaurants serving a full range of traditional foods and wines. Or just relax in one of the many quiet squares.
